Je bent tussen 12 en 16 uur van harte welkom om op de openingsdag 18 juli te komen kijken naar onze nieuwe zomertentoonstelling: Te zien zijn de werken en installaties van Ilse Pierard (B) en Gabi Rets (NL): met alledaags én bijzonder papier vertellen ze op hun eigen manier over het leven. Beide kunstenaars zijn aanwezig.

De Belgische kunstenares Ilse Pierard richt zich in haar artistieke papierwerken op de geabstraheerde vorm van een cel, de basis en de kleinste eenheid van het leven. Haar intrigerende en fragiele papiercollages zijn een ode aan de cel. De kunstenares wil de tijdloze esthetische harmonie en schoonheid van een existentiële waarheid weergeven met een eenvoudige maar intense distillatie van haar eigen artistieke materiaal en taal.
In haar werkproces verkent ze een breed scala aan alledaags verpakkingsmateriaal, transparant papier, zijdepapier, metaalfolie of cellofaan. In het accepteren van slijtagesporen langs de randen en hoeken - sporen van gebruik en behandeling - benadrukt de kunstenaar de kwetsbaarheid en levendigheid van het materiaal.

Gabi Rets speelt met alledaags papier. Gescheurde en verlijmde kranten vormen luchtige lijnconstructies die hun eigen schaduw werpen. Verpakkingen en karton, bestempeld en uitgesneden, werken als uitvergrote cliché's. Met elkaar vormen alle elementen een uitdijende beeldende woordenschat, waarmee Rets haar figuratieve beeldverhalen in elkaar zet. Afhankelijk van ruimte of thema worden de variabele onderdelen telkens anders gecombineerd, soms letterlijk en figuurlijk in meerdere lagen.

Voor de galerieruimte heeft Rets twee nieuwe series gemaakt, houders en toeschouwers, waarin naast het spel met materiaal en structuur ook kleur een rol krijgt toebedeeld. Terwijl de afgestemde tinten bij de toeschouwers subtiel op de schaduw als thema zinspelen, verwijzen de materiaalkleuren zwart, wit, grijs en bruin van de houders op hun eigen symbolische waarde.

Noteer het alvast in je agenda! In verband met de Covid-19 maatregelen hanteren we een maximaal 8 personen in de galerie. Aangezien we een grote ruimte hebben, voorzien we geen grote drukte en kunnen we genoeg afstand houden. Geef, als je kan, aan hoe laat je wilt komen. En anders kijk je ter plaatse, er is genoeg tijd tussen 12 en 16 uur om langs te komen. We verheugen ons op je komst!

You are very welcome between 12 and 16 hours to come and see our new summer exhibition on the opening day 18th July: The works and installations of Ilse Pierard (B) and Gabi Rets (NL) are on display: they tell about life in their own way, using both everyday and special paper. Both artists are present.

How complex is the core of life, how complex its representation? In her artistic paper works Ilse Pierard focusses on the abstracted form of a cell, the basic and the smallest unit of life. Her intriguing and fragile paper works in their reduced oval shape are an ode to the cell. The artist’s concern is to represent the timeless aesthetic harmony and beauty of an existential truth with a simple yet intense distillate of her own artistic material and language.
In her working process she explores a wide range of everyday handicraft paper and wrapping material: transparent paper, silk paper as well as craft paper, metal foil or cellophane sheet. Accepting wear marks alongside the edges and corners - traces of use and handling – the artist emphasizes their fragility and liveliness.

Gabi Rets plays with everyday paper. Torn and glued newspapers form airy line constructions that cast their own shadow. Packaging and cardboard, stamped and cut, work like enlarged clichés. Together, all elements form an expanding visual vocabulary, with which Rets assembles her figurative visual stories. Depending on space or theme, the variable parts are differently combined, sometimes literally and figuratively in several layers.

Gabi Rets has made two new series for the gallery space, holders and beholders, in which color plays a role in addition to material and structure. While the attuned hues of the beholders subtly hint at the shadow as theme, the material colors black, white, gray and brown of the holders refer to their own symbolic value.
|

Save the day! Because of the Covid-19 measures we have a maximum of 8 people in the gallery. Since we have a large space, we don't foresee any big crowds and we can keep enough distance.
