Growing up near the Kempen forests, Loes still enjoys hiking through nature. Her belief: As humans, we know the rock-solid effect of nature on our body and mind. Being surrounded by nature gives us security, happiness, tranquility and freedom. At the same time, for us nature also reflects impermanence and change.
The wall objects Loes creates convey these sensory experiences. They are not immediately recognizable forms; they are amorphous, abstract, seemingly simple. The works can be traced back to the landscape, trees, plants and their structures. With these objects, Schepens wants to slow down the detachment we experience with nature. They make us aware of references that we ourselves experience while walking by the sea or in the woods.
