Last year, six artists were given the keys to the garden and the forest of Soestdijk Palace, which is normally closed to the public. They were allowed to spend a year gathering inspiration and collecting materials during all seasons. The works by Loes Schepens, which are now on display in the gallery window, include an ode to the poisonous foxglove, the sparkling rhododendron, the exuberant grass seeds and the fallen trees full of tiny forest creatures. The works tell the remarkable history of this garden and its former royal residents. This estate has been laid out and preserved since 1672. The dense forest revealed even more secrets, such as encounters with animals and unusual plants. The light was also surprising and created certain atmospheres. It was a wonderful experience for the artists to wander endlessly through this forest and feel at one with nature.
