Paper shoes: fashion environment en cultural history,

Since studying graphic design at the Royal Academy in The Hague, Liza Snook has been collecting everything that has to do with shoes. In order to share this passion with the rest of the world, she and Taco Zwaanswijk started the website virtualshoemuseum.com in 2004. For ten years now, Liza has been using this digital platform to create exhibitions of shoes in art and design all over the world, together with various museums. She also works together with Workman Publishers New York, she is a international jury member for various design courses and she helps young designers on their way in their careers.

Heleen Overbeek is a shoe designer and she researches how to make shoes that make a positive contribution to the world and do not pollute it. In this exhibition you will see products from the projects Foot-Print (2016) and EXP:RED (2018). Both projects focus on paper and disposable shoes.

Heleen’s work revolves around the design principle that, when designing products, you have to take into account that they are going to be thrown away. It resembles the cradle to cradle principles. The shoes in her project go one step further because they can be used for a maximum of 30 days. By using them, they will wear out and break down, after which you can recycle them in the paper bin. Here they become part of the recycling process of paper and new paper is made. Possibly they will end up with Heleen again, so she can make your shoes of yesterday, your shoes of tomorrow.
