Workshops
Workshop Japanese paper making With Rogier Uitenboogaart
FULLY BOOKED
Washi paper is used for many purposes in Japan and is made from kozo, the mulberry tree, amongst other materials. In this workshop, you will learn how to make washi from Rogier Uitenboogaart, who has been living and working in Japan for decades. You will work using the traditional Eastern method of papermaking, employing a bamboo mat on a papermaking frame: the sugeta. The organically grown kozo we use is cultivated by Rogier himself and grows in the mountains of Shikoku, the western island of Japan where paper has traditionally been made.
Rogier also talks about his quest for the perfect sheet of paper and his experiences with Japanese culture, in which paper plays a very important role and has fundamentally changed his life. There will also be examples of his tools and his other special papers on display.
