A group of 9 stewards from The Linen Project worked together on clothing for working on the flax field. Specific tasks such as sowing, weeding, and even taken photo’s during the work require specialized clothing. We conducted historical research and transformed our field experiences into a concept. Our first VLASGOED/FLAXWEAR (apron, bags, socks, shoes, belts, and cords) are now on display at the State of Fashion exhibition in Arnhem, which was opened by Queen Maxima.
Everything in this VLASGOED collection is crafted from flax grown on the organic farm the Horsterhof and further processed by hand. We made flax paper for the shoes, created thread from the paper, and twisted it with self-spun flax thread (botanically dyed with indigo). This sturdy thread was woven and forms the basis of the apron.
Additionally, various woven, crocheted, and braided bags, belts, and cords were designed. The materials and prototypes are also on display at the exhibition. We are incredibly proud and happy with our first pieces! It is so important to feel and experience the joy of the making process, and then a garment takes on a completely different, profound meaning.
